Summer nails at the ready –it’s easy to DIY
You’ve wrapped up your work in the office, mentally packed your suitcase and feel ready for your holiday… but, wait! Your nails are ragged and colourless, and there’s no time to book into anywhere to sort them out. I feel your pain. But, luckily, an at-home option doesn’t need to be a disaster. There are some brilliant new products that can give you a shiny, bright manicure to last you through a week in the sun.
The quickest way to neaten up your nails is to use a cuticle remover. My favourite is the Sally Hansen Cuticle Rehab: apply a dab on each nail bed, leave for 60 seconds while it works its magic and then gently push back the cuticles. Rinse your hands under warm water, et voilà! Instantly neatened nail beds.

Follow by running a file over each nail to even them out. I think the most flattering shape is a natural, slightly rounded shape, although if your nails are naturally more square, don’t fight it. Run the file only in one direction though, rather than back and forth in a sawing motion.
As for colour, turn to Chanel’s new polishes. I’ve always thought the brand had some of the best shades on the market (as do legions of mani fans), and now it has a smart new formula to match. I’m talking a lasting high-shine finish that doesn’t chip for at least four days. I’m very impressed.
For a pop of colour, you can’t beat the bright orange kick of the shade Espadrilles. If you prefer a more natural finish, I am obsessed with the BB Créme by Orly. It’s basically like a tinted moisturiser for nails (yes, really), so it gives just a very natural, semi-transparent nude finish. It’s the quick way to nail perfection if you’ve still got a list of pre-holiday tasks to get through – or if you’re yet to pack your suitcase.
